I’m so angry I can’t think straight. I’m so sad there aren’t enough tears in my body to give water to my pain. Today I listened to sexual predator Brett Kavanaugh have a civil discourse with Scott Stewart OBO Mississippi (of family separation infamy) discuss women’s bodily autonomy. It didn’t go well for women, though they were remarkably affable with each other. I am screaming inside. I similarly listened while Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford relived her sexual assault at the hands of young, entitled Brett Kavanuagh. As secure in his freedom to sexually assault her as a teenager, as he was secure in his absolute right to be a supreme court justice, and above being questioned on the day of his confirmation hearing, as he was secure in his power to snatch bodily autonomy from American women during his affable chat with Scott Stewart this morning. Totally fucking secure. I don’t know what I should have done differently - I blame myself. How did my country get here and why wasn’t I strong enough to stop it?! How are the same callous, condescending, above-the-law hypocrites still in charge? Still lecturing women on personal responsibility while bearing none? Still mouthing allegiance to stare decisis while disregarding any precedent they dislike? Not only will this tear at the selfhood of a generation of young women, it rips the very fabric of the judicial branch into partisan shreds. SHREDS. I listened as Scott fucking Stewart compared Roe to Plessy. PLESSY. Plessy was a case where the Supreme Court upheld segregation as constitutional. Plessy was wrong, Scott said, and was therefore overturned. Just like Roe is wrong, and should be overturned. The unbridled cynicism it requires to argue that the racism of Plessy was wrong and therefore it was properly overturned and therefore the Court should uphold a sexist and racist law condemning disproportionately Black women living in poverty, in rural communities, to life threatening lack of medical access - is staggering. This is the post-Trump world. News is fake. Anything Trump doesn’t like is a lie. The only truth is power and contempt for those without it. This cannot stand. Help me fix this. I have no idea what to do, but this isn’t the America I want for my kids. If you have any ideas call me.
